Spotlight on Daneece Fraizer

Owner of EJ's Little People - a Specialty Hair Salon and Boutique Exclusively for Kids - and Member of FOVECD

We're pleased to introduce Daneece Fraizer, owner of the EJ's Little People and FOVEC Member, in our Business Spotlight Series.

We're spotlighting various merchants in the Fair Oaks Village, as well as individuals who support what FOVEC does, all while giving you a little insight into our history and what we do for the Village. We encourage you to share these local stories and visit with merchants to get to know them firsthand.

We connected with Daneece Fraizer to learn more about EJ's Little People and her work with FOVEC.

What is EJ's Little People? How would you describe it to a friend?

EJ's Little People is a specialty hair salon and boutique exclusively for children.

Why did you start the business? What do you hope to accomplish?

EJ's Little People was established at the original Fair Oaks location in 1974, by Geraldine Bemrick. I had worked for Geri for three years and fell in love with the idea of a salon that specialized in children.

I purchased the three Sacramento area locations with my good friend Malea Heim in September of 2001. Malea and I hoped to continue the tradition of a great haircut for all of the littles, no matter what they do (wiggle, fight, scream, vomit). We knew we were working miracles.

Malea left in 2006, I sold two locations, and now am back home at the original location in the Fair Oaks Village.

What's something you wish people knew about your business?

I wish people understood that we are not a cut and run like Super Cuts. EJ's little People is a place where you get the best haircut for your child. We hold ourselves to a very high standard.

What is a common question you get or what is your most popular product or service?

The most common question is: "My child hates a haircut, can you handle that?" The answer is always yes, we have seen it all!

What's the biggest compliment you've received?

I have received many. We often see kiddos that hate to have a haircut and we get them

through it with skill, patience, and kindness. My amazing staff and I are often called miracle workers, and we are because we all love what we do. Why did you choose to be in the Fair Oak Village? My husband's family is from Fair Oaks. I am so glad that we landed here with our kids.

Are you a member of the chamber or any other networking organizations?

I am not a member of the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, however, I do volunteer for Fair Oaks Christmas in the Village which is a chamber event.

Are you involved with or do you support any local nonprofits, community organizations or causes?

I do support my community anyway I can, but my favorite cause to support is our local Fair Oaks Special Olympics team BVDC (Bella Vista & Del Campo).

Not many people in Fair Oaks know that we have a team. Bob & Cathey Wood, Doug & Anne Thomas, and many others have provided athletic opportunities for intellectually disabled people in Fair Oaks for the last two decades.

I should mention that my son Ian is a Special Olympian and at 23 years old has been with BVDC for eight years. Special Olympics is a joyful and worthy organization and I feel blessed to have a team in Fair Oaks.

When and why did you start volunteering with FOVEC? What is your current role?

I began attending FOVEC meetings in March of 2011. My friend and business neighbor, Charles Miller, was tired of me asking him what was going on in the Village and so I joined. I am now the Treasurer and the Public Outreach Chairperson.

What's your favorite part about working with FOVEC?

My favorite part of working with FOVEC is learning about how our local county government works and meeting people who can make real change happen in our community.

What are you most excited for with the future of FOVEC?

As public outreach chair, I am excited that FOVEC is working toward engaging the Fair Oaks community in ways that are fun, social, and meaningful.

I also love getting the merchants and community members involved to do the work of meeting the goal of working together to increase the viability of the Fair Oaks Village as a thriving business district.
