Brand New Business at 10127 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Fair Oaks Village, Finding Success While Opening During the Global Pandemic

We're pleased to introduce Carrie Merrill of Fashion Rewind Trading Co. in our Business Spotlight Series.

We're spotlighting various merchants in the Fair Oaks Village, as well as individuals who support what FOVEC does, all while giving you a little insight into our history and what we do for the Village. We encourage you to share these local stories and visit with merchants to get to know them firsthand.

We connected with Carrie to learn more about the opening of Fashion Rewind in late 2020 and what's to come in 2021.

Tell us about your business. When did you open? What was the main motivation for starting your business?

Fashion Rewind Trading Co. opened Dec. 1, 2020. My main motivation for opening my own business was to be able to work for myself and provide a fun shopping experience in a local community. I have always wanted to have my own store/boutique.

I wasn't looking, nor was it planned, but all the doors kept opening to the path of having my own store.

My family and friends have been my emotional motivation to start during the pandemic. I have been truly humbled by this whole experience. I am a true believer of what you put out into the universe will come back to you.

Personally speaking, what is your favorite thing about your business?

My favorite thing about my business is how I get to reflect creativity within the store both visually and through the merchandise in the store.

What is a common question you get? Your answer to it?

The most common question I get asked is, 'What kind of store is this?'

I explain that we are a new and recycled clothing store for men and women. I don't like using the word 'thrift.' I like to use the words 'resale' and 'recycled.'

What's the biggest compliment you've received about your business?

The biggest compliments I receive is how well priced the merchandise is, the cleanliness, and how impressed the customers are by the overall presentation.

What is your most popular product or service? And, personally, what is your favorite?

My most popular service is that I buy clothing from the public and in exchange, the customer can receive store credit or cash. One of my favorite things is the variety of merchandise I get to see. I love buying merchandise for the store!

Are you involved with or do you support any local nonprofits, community organizations, or causes?

Right now, I currently support two local jewelry makers. They consign their local jewelry in the store. I also carry the infamous 'NO BARKING' t-Shirt—a local designer makes the t-shirts and also consigns them in the store.

Why did you choose to be in Fair Oaks Village? Why is this city important to you?

I chose to be in the Fair Oaks Village so that I could be part of a small-town community and be involved within the revitalization of the village. There are quite a few new businesses within the village and we all support each other in our daily encounters. It takes a village to keep the dream alive!

Do you have any upcoming events, specials, or new items/services that people should know about?

For now, we want people to know that we are all eagerly trying to spread the good word and let our community and others around us that we are OPEN for business. I'm excited about the future and will be planning some events as soon as COVID allows it.
