We're pleased to introduce Alina McCloud, owner of Sherwood Florist, in our Business Spotlight Series.

We're spotlighting various merchants in the Fair Oaks Village, as well as individuals who support what FOVEC does, all while giving you a little insight into our history and what we do for the Village. We encourage you to share these local stories and visit with merchants to get to know them firsthand.

We connected with Alina to learn more about her and her work with the Sherwood Florist.

What is Sherwood Florist? How would you describe it to a friend?

Sherwood Florist is a one stop shopping experience for beautiful custom flowers, unique gift items, and locally made gourmet chocolates all with that Fair Oaks Village atmosphere and wonderful service.

How long have you been involved with flowers and flower arrangements?

Since my very first job at the age of 15 :-) I was hired to work the register and ended up making prom corsages on my first day there. We made about 100 that day. I had dreams of corsages and boutonnieres that night!

What do you enjoy most about working with them?

The joy that our creations bring to those that receive them! I never get tired of how beautiful flowers are and how not one looks exactly the same as the other. A gift of nature!

How did you come to own the business of Sherwood Florist?

I had worked with the previous owner for the past 12 years and he wanted the business to be passed onto someone who was just as passionate about the shop as he had been for the past 46 years.

What did you hope to accomplish?

I hope to continue on with his legacy while creating my own interpretation of Sherwood.

What's something you wish people knew about your business?

I wish people knew that we are not just a full service florist but we have a wonderful gift shop and locally made chocolates.

What is a common question you get?

The most common question we get is "Do you deliver?"

Our answer is YES! All over the Sacramento area along with parts of Placer and El Dorado Counties.

What's the biggest compliment you've received?

Our biggest compliment has probably been that we have a high attention to detail and are willing to go the extra mile for our customers, treating them like our family.

Are you involved with or do you support any local nonprofits, community organizations or causes? If so, in what ways?

We try to support local schools, churches, public services, and our local Fair Oaks community. We donate our time and products.

Are you a member of any networking organizations?

Yes I am a member of the Chamber.

Do you have any upcoming specials that people should know about?

Check us during the upcoming festivals for all of our secret festival specials! Sweet specials coming soon!!! What do you enjoy about having your business located in the Village?

I love working everyday in the Village! The Trees, the chickens, and the people are the best! It's so quaint. I feel so lucky to be a part of the Village!

What are some cons about doing business in the Village?

I would have to say the parking is probably the biggest con and the biggest challenge facing the Fair Oaks Village commercial district.

What are some of your favorite things (overall) about the Village?

I love all of the community events!

My Favorite is Christmas in the Village; it truly feels like you're in a Hallmark movie. I enjoy watching all the families having such a magical time.

What changes would you like to see in the future?

More businesses opening and some type of parking structure to make it more convenient for all of the businesses customers to use.

What is the importance of community to you?

I feel that community is extremely important to ones happiness and success. I also feel this way when it comes to raising my children. We cannot do that alone, we need our community to be successful. It is the same in business.
