For many years Fair Oaks has hosted Concerts in the Park on Thursday evenings from June through August. These popular free events bring hundreds of people to the village to enjoy an evening of music under the stars with family and friends.

Many years ago, the Fair Oaks Foundation for Leisure and the Arts held an event every month in the Village.

I hope we can revive that tradition by working across the different organizations and businesses to host an event each month that encourages people to continue to come to the village regularly.

Ideally, these events would be coordinated with the local merchants to create both an entertaining experience for our visitors and a rewarding one for our merchants, i.e., an opportunity to be entertained and eat, drink, and shop well.

The goal would be to feature local artists, entertainers, and educators through events that focus on different topics such as food, wine, beer, photography, art, music, crafts, etc.

The events would be free for visitors by using fundraising activities, such as popcorn or ice cream sales and donations.

Over time, we might evolve to annual events for each of these dates creating a calendar visitors and merchants alike could plan on something like:

• Jan: Regifting Resolution Swap Meet

• Feb: Village Valentines Vino Venue

• Mar: March Madness Party

• Apr: April Fools in the Village

• May: Flower Show

• Jun: Concerts in the Park

• Jul: Concerts in the Park

• Aug: Concerts in the Park

• Sep: Village BBQ

• Oct: Village Costume Party

• Nov: Village Turkey Shoot (photo show)

• Dec: Christmas in the Village
