The 2023 Zoning Code Update
Sacramento County is currently undergoing a massive 2023 Zoning Code Update designed to streamline development and modernize decades-old regulations. Think of it as a "30,000-mile major maintenance" for the County’s development rules.
What’s changing?
The update addresses 131 specific issues, ranging from minor technical fixes to major policy shifts. Key goals include:
Streamlining Approvals: Moving toward "by-right" development to reduce red tape.
Business Support: Updating antiquated rules to make it easier for local businesses to open and grow.
Consistency: Ensuring staff interprets rules the same way across the entire County.
