Friends of Sailor Bar Update May 28, 2025

So much has happened and is happening I can barely keep up.  I'll bet you are feeling overwhelmed too.  I'll keep this short and to the point.  Here is a list of upcoming events at Sailor Bar that you might want to participate in:

May 30th 8:30 - 10:30:  The Friends of Bar Stewards are partnering with the California Native Plant Society to remove invasive star thistle that is taking over Sailor Bar.  Thanks to expert Sailor Bar Steward team leaders Deb and Ian Philbrook and Sacramento Valley Chapter, CNPS president Chris Lewis we have a sustainable strategy.  Our goal is to remove the thistle that is crowding/preventing growth of the Native Plants.  The work project is being held every Saturday from 8:30 - 10:30.  The more people that show up, the more progress we will make!  Find more information and sign up here:  https://luma.com/bavs0fdh

June 13th 7 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.:  The Friends of Sailor Bar is partnering with the Sacramento County Regional Parks to host a FAMILY HEALTH AND WELLNESS DAY AT SAILOR BAR.  Participants can participate in a variety of wellness activities including Yoga, Somatic Nature Stroll, Zumba and more.  Find more information on the attached flyer. (Scoll way down to the bottom)  Flyers will also be posted at the entrances to Sailor Bar. RSVP's are encouraged by emailing ProtectSailorBar@yahoo.com, or texting 916.837.4159

3rd Saturdays of the Month:  The Friends of Sailor Bar and Sacramento County Regional parks are having fun and educational events each month through November.

Each event has a different theme.  Soon, you will be able to find out about these events on our Friends of Sailor Bar website that is under construction.

IN THE WORKS:  The Friends of Sailor Bar and the Regional Parks maintenance staff are jointly working on a project to install a drinking fountain for humans and dogs in the Olive Avenue Parking lot where there is direct access to a water source.  Our agreement is that we will raise the money for the fountain, and the wonderful maintenance staff will install it.  I love that they care about Fido too!  I'm excited for you to see the flyer that our FOSB artist, Pam Burton  has made about Fido's Fountain!

KUDO'S TO YOU!  Thanks to of all of you who are The Friends of Sailor Bar, I was extremely honored to accept an award in your behalf.  This Resolution was awarded to the Sacramento County 5 over 50 volunteers of 2026.  Each of the Board of Supervisors selected one person to be presented the Resolution.  Thanks to Bruce Forman who nominated me, and to those who wrote letters, Supervisor Rich Desmond selected us!  (i.e. The Friends of Sailor Bar).  When you read this Resolution, please substitute my name for "The Friends of Sailor Bar".  Let's thank District Supervisor Rich Desmond and Regional Parks Director Liz Bellas for the Love and Grace. And each other for our wonderful community of compassion.  At the end of the day, isn't that what really matters?
