Due to Measure J Village Park Construction projects, certain District parking lots will be temporarily closed.  The following District parking lots will be closed beginning July 10, 2023*, and will remain closed for approximately three (3) months with tentative completion to take place in the middle of September 2023.  Tentative opening of parking lots is contingent upon no unforeseen underground complications, weather, etc. as part of the construction project in the area: California Ave. Impact: All District Owned California Ave. Spaces Initial Closure Date: Monday, July 10, 2023 Fair Oaks Blvd. Impact: All District Owned Spaces between California Ave. and Park Drive Initial Closure Date: Monday, July 10, 2023 Note: As construction moves to the western portion of the project site, access for materials and heavy equipment will be required.  Due to this, parking along Fair Oaks Blvd. may remain closed for longer than the immediate construction of the parking spaces requires.*click the button below to view the community updates and closure maps The result of these and other upcoming parking closures are going to increase total parking spaces surrounding District property to enhance the Village parking experience as well as to install pervious pavement and new curbing in order to improve the accessibility, efficiency, and appearance of District parking lots in the Village.  The timeline of this process is being planned to minimize weather impacts or other potential delays.  Parking spaces in other areas of District property in the Village will remain open as long as possible to allow for current closures to be completed and re-opened to the public. For questions, please contact Mike Aho, District Administrator at (916) 966-1036.  For continued Measure J construction updates, live construction footage, and more - click HERE. I hope you will join me again this Saturday to help raise funds for Fair Oaks Village. The 5th Annual Fair Oaks Village Benefit BBQ returns on June 3rd at 5:00 PM in Old Fair Oaks Village.  There will be homemade brisket, pulled pork sliders, BBQ chicken as well as several great homemade side dishes for our vegetarian friends!  We will provide live music this year by “Playback the HITS”, a Woodland-based band that features rock & roll from the past four decades.  We also have wonderful prizes, including a seven-day stay in a condo in Maui and several raffle prizes worth hundreds of dollars from our wonderful partners in Fair Oaks, just waiting to be won.  Maybe the best part, despite inflation, our wonderful volunteers allow us to keep the entry cost at just $45 for adults and $25 for children under 18. And all the proceeds from this fundraiser flow back into Fair Oaks as concerts, children’s events, parking improvements and more.  We are lucky this year to have the new Fair Oaks Village Coworking as our venue with their beautiful front yard overlooking the Village. Easy and level access is available from the parking lot off Bridge St or Temescal St. You can buy your tickets online today or in person at EJ’s Little People or the Stockman Club. A limited number of tickets may also be available at the event, but we hope you buy today, because we don’t want to send anyone home disappointed.

The proposal to replace the Smog-N-Go with a drive-thru Starbuck is back in front of CPAC on March 1st. Included in this proposal is the assumption that a u-turn at the Fair Oaks/Bridge St/Howard St intersection will soon be legal and encouraged. Think for a moment what that will do for safety and traffic flow entering and existing the village. If you can't make the CPAC meeting, then send your comments to Boardclerk@saccounty.gov. Include meeting date (3/1/23) and agenda item number (1) in your email. The 100+ page proposal is attached for your reading pleasure.

Newsletter of the Fair Oaks Historical Society, Inc. January 2023 – Issue 143 Note of Appreciation Ralph Carhart, Editor I am taking my ‘editor’s opportunity’ to thank and compliment Wendy Key who has been Editor of this newsletter through the Covid pandemic. She is a great writer and editor and has done a terrific job. I appreciate Wendy for giving me a reprieve for a couple of years. Despite the disruption Covid wrought on our quarterly potluck meetings, Soup Night and the History Center, we can thank the Society’s officers and volunteers for getting us through it, as strong as ever. We have adapted in creative ways— Bob Sours’s weekly blogs, the ‘virtual’ Soup Night, and the new Welcome Hours at the History Center are examples of these adaptions. As in earlier days of our community, we have met the challenge and emerged stronger.
